2010 Follow-Up

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

This year was the first year for a number of our initiatives. Some of them were fun, some needed many efforts, and some were suspended.

The 25th of December was the 1st birthday for our website. We still like it and it seems that others like it too: after submitting it to a number of CSS galleries our website design still appears in many other galleries and we still have lots of visitors from those galleries.

The year 2010 was also the first one for our initiative to help charities and other non-commercial organizations. We were extremely happy to launch the website for Forever Searching. Karen and Kathy from Forever Searching as well as other volunteers are doing a very important job during their free time – they support the families of the missing kids and people, by increasing public awareness to not only individual cases but to what can only be described as the phenomenon of missing people in general. Please drop by; perhaps you might also help somehow.

Another thing we started but to our regret had to suspend, was our «one wallpaper per month» campaign. We feel sorry about this. This was due to the incredible amount of work we had this year. We still hope to restart this initiative.

And a few more results of the year in a line:

  • We did more than 50 projects (website design, branding, print design, html coding) and are already fully booked till mid of February.
  • A number of new countries appeared in our clients locations: Poland, Ireland, Holland, and Switzerland.
  • We started to use the Mockups tool from Balsamiq for wireframing. Love it!

This year was a fruitful one for us. We loved it a lot and we are now looking forward to the next year – its big and small routines and surprises.

Happy New Year! Happy New Days! Happy New Seconds!

Wireframing helps

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Every website design or redesign we start with a wireframe – a skeleton of the future website layout. While making a wireframe, the scope of work becomes clear not only for designers, but sometimes for clients as well. The customers start to see how the web site will work and what visitors will or will not be able to do. Thus they might notice and fix the possible drawbacks or even missing functionality on the early stage. Read more…

Websites for charities

Friday, May 14th, 2010

Not long ago we decided to take the initiative to help charities and other non-commercial organizations. We decided that we can do free websites design for them. Not always and not all of them have enough funds and experience to set up some sort of online presence that could help in their activities, while for such organizations it is vital to promote themselves and attract contributors and volunteers. We believe that a good design can really help deliver the message and create the right emotions.

What we are offering is a unique design for a micro website that will consist of 3 pages (extra works will have a 30% discount). So far we think we can design about 5 websites per year.

We are open to help those who help and hope that our small initiative will be useful.

I value design because…

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Today is the World Graphics Day, the day to recognize the value of graphic design.

This event was initiated by Icograda (International Council of Graphic Design Associations) to mark the anniversary of Icograda establishment in 1963. It has been celebrated since 1995.

This year we are encouraged to speculate on why we value design.

I would say that at any moment there could be absolutely different values. Yesterday I valued design because it just makes things look beautiful, today I value design because it inspires:

  • to buy/sell
  • to forget/remember
  • to ask for/give
  • to hate/love
  • to start/finish

So today I am inspired and that is why I value design. And I am thankful to design for being so diverse in its values.

Design galleries for promotion

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Not long ago we decided that our web site is well enough to be listed in some well-known design related galleries that list good CSS based web sites. And we do good CSS based web sites!

Now we are proudly listed in the following ones:

By the way, after you are listed at CSS Mania you appear as well in a dozen or so other resources.

All these sites have already brought us more than 2000 visitors starting from March 04, 2010. And the leader is CSS Mania (about 70%).

So give it a try as well if you have a nice CSS based web site.
